For this movie, Kareena Kapoor had to play the character of Naaz, a Bangladeshi girl with whom Bachchan’s character falls in love. The film was set during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. It is said that Dutta casted her for the combination of youthfulness and innocence Kareena has. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, Kareena played the role of a golden-hearted prostitute who meets with a widowed investment banker.
